It All Started With a 75

It All Started With a 75

Like a lot of amateur snooker players, I can trace the start of this site back to one memorable break.

I made my first 70-plus break—a 75—and walked away convinced that bigger breaks were just around the corner. Once you've done it once, surely the 80s, maybe even a century, can't be far behind...

Well, not quite.

The bigger break never came.

Instead, there were countless evenings of near misses, careless mistakes, and the familiar frustration of knowing you can play the shots but somehow not string them together. Some nights I felt like I was finally cracking the game. Other nights it felt as though I'd never held a cue before.

If you're an amateur player, you'll probably recognise that feeling.

That's the strange thing about snooker. It's one of the few games where progress rarely arrives in a straight line. You can play the best frame of your life one week and struggle to make 20 the next. You practise, you tweak your cue action, you watch the professionals, and you tell yourself that the next visit to the club will be different.

Sometimes it is.

Most of the time, it isn't.

But we keep coming back.

We come back because there is something addictive about chasing that next personal best. Whether it's your first 20 break, your first 50, or finally beating the highest break that's been sitting beside your name for years, every milestone means something. They're moments you'll remember long after the frame has finished.

That's really why I started this website.

Not because I've mastered the game—I certainly haven't—but because I enjoy the journey as much as the destination. I suspect there are thousands of players who feel exactly the same.

Over the coming months I'll be sharing stories, thoughts, ideas and hopefully a few laughs from life as an amateur snooker player. Some posts will celebrate great breaks, others will look at the frustrations of improving, and some will simply be about why we all keep falling in love with this wonderfully infuriating game.

If any of that sounds familiar, you're in the right place.

And who knows?

Maybe the next time either of us walks into the club, today's highest break will become yesterday's.

Have you made a break you'll never forget? Browse our Highest Break collection and celebrate the achievement.
